African-American dating is a category of dating that has always had either specialized sections devoted to it at general dating sites, or specialist sites catering solely to Black people. For example see the links to the right which go to the service we recommend.

If you only want to meet Black people for online dating then one of these sites should suite you. There are some, however, who do not want to confine themselves to Black dating and for them it may be that interracial dating is the answer.

When I first got into online dating back in the 1990s I came across these specialized Black online dating sites and they set me thinking. Was there anything racist about them?

At first I had no answer. These sites were restricting themselves, in effect, to a single race -- if there is such a thing as a Black race; the idea is unscientific at best. Leaving that aside, wasn't a site that only allowed one color discriminatory in some way?

On thinking about it more carefully I realized that it was not so. If individual people choose to only date people who are Black then that is their choice, of course. The Black dating sites are not being discriminatory because they are catering to what might be described as a 'lifestyle choice', no one is forcing any discrimination upon anyone else.

That is the crucial factor I feel, whether these choices are being made freely or not. If they are being made freely then there is no case to answer.
